7 Cadets from the Squadron completed a 75km trek across mountainous terrain to complete their Gold Duke of Edinburgh qualifying expedition. Kirsten Whyte, Conor Watson, Harriet Gilzean, Nick Neill, Gregor Moodie, Adam Brown and Paul Scott spent 4 days and 4 nights navigating their way across the Cairngorms from Coylumbridge (near aviemore) to Ballater.
They showed excellent teamwork to complete the expedition in high spirits despite experiencing some very poor weather conditions and midge infested campsites!

On Saturday the 28th of August 2450 (Dudhope) Squadron Cadets Di Ponio, Gardiner, Donaldson, Scott J, Cook, Whyman and Reilly were joined by five cadets from 1232 (City of Dundee) Sqn to take part in the lord Provost’s Youth Parade. The parade started off at the High School of Dundee where Flt Lt Wallace led the Air Training Corp contingent down Reform Street along the High Street and to the City Churches.
From there the parade went around the city church and back along the high street before heading into the city Square. The parade was then dismissed from the city square after a short speech from the Lord Provost of the City of Dundee.
Mean while CI Jamie Curran spent the day running a flight simulator in the recruitment marquee in the city centre. The cadets spent the day recruiting potential 13 year olds and adult volunteers.

Five cadets from 2519 (Strathmore) Squadron, recently had a successful weeks Camp, at JHC Aldergrove, Northern Ireland.
The five cadets who attended were Cpls Jillian Reid and Greig Forsyth and Cdts Murray Bullions, Scott Harper and Robert Richardson.
Their journey started in Perth, where they met up with the rest of the cadets. They then traveled by coach to Cairn Ryan and traveled by ferry to Larne. Completing their journey to JHC Aldergrove by coach. On their arrival they were allocated their rooms and flights followed by their evening meal in the Mess.
The cadets started their Modules, getting their heads stuck into their work. During the weeks stay they went to Belfast for the day. When in Belfast the cadets got an open top tour bus round Belfast including a trip to W5 a Brilliant Science Centre followed by a few hours shopping!
They also had a sports evening with the Royal Air Force Motivational Team. On another evening all the cadets enjoyed Toy Story 3 in the Base Cinema which they all thoroughly enjoyed!
On the last night the final prize giving took place, during which the media module showed them all a very good presentation with pictures of events that had happened throughout the week which was followed by their Disco.
The cadets from Strathmore Squadron were involved with the modules below:-
- First Aid Module
- Shooting Module
- DOE Module
- Fieldcraft Module
As a result of their work within their respective modules, Cpl Jillian Reid was delighted to be presented with her 1st
First Aid Badge for completing her module to the required standard, Cpl Greig Forsyth and Cdt Scott Harper were awarded their Regional Marksman at the end of the shooting module and Cadet Murray Bullions got presented with a certificate for passing his Bronze D of E Expedition.
Although no formal award available at end of the Fieldcraft module Cdt Robert Richardson thoroughly enjoyed this module and hopefully will be able to pass on the skills learned to other cadets back at the Squadron.

On the 18th of July three cadets from 2519 (Strathmore) Squadron, FS Matthew Stevenson and Cdt's Fraser Scott and Katie Stevenson journeyed to R.M.Condor for gliding at 662 V.G.S. (Volunteer Gliding Squadron).
On their arrival at R.M.Condor they were all briefed on the expected weather conditions, circuits to be used, possibility of Royal Flights, air safety, etc, and a video on the parachute was then shown followed by a video on Viking Glider and its controls.
At this point they all travelled out to the airfield and were shown how to attach the launching strop, how to hold the wing tips and what to do at launch time when the glider is winched up into the air.
Then one at a time each cadet was kitted up with a parachute then into the glider and away they went.
Cdt's Scott and Stevenson undertook a Gliding Induction Course (GIC) 1 which consists of one familiarisation flight, one flight-covering pitch-using elevators, one flight covering roll using ailerons they then both undertook a GIC 2 which is as a GIC 1 but with one extra flight which covers yaw using the rudder.
Flight Sergeant Matthew Stevenson had one flight, which was a refresher flight covering all aspects of his recent Gliding Scholarship Courses, which was the longest flight of the day lasting 48 minutes.
All the cadets enjoyed their day at R.M. Condor and cannot wait for their next gliding experience.

Three cadets and three members of staff from 2519 (Strathmore) Squadron, had a successful weeks Summer Camp, at Royal Air Force Wittering, Cambridgeshire from the 26th of June to the 3rd of July.
The three cadets who attended were Cadet Warrant Officer Jemma Reid, Corporal Jillian Reid, Cadet Murray Bullions and they were accompanied by Flight Lieutenant Roy Kemp, Flight Lieutenant Michael Kay, and Adult Sergeant Mark Harper
The group arrived at R.A.F. Wittering on the 26th June after a 7½ hour coach journey and after being allocated their accommodation and flights they were given a security brief from the RAF Police Flight plus a health and safety brief by a member of the Fire Section. After their evening meal the cadets carried out a familiarisation exercise in their flights to learn their way round the station.
Each morning at 0700 the Air Training Corps Ensign was raised by the duty NCO and saluted by the Duty Officer and it was lowered each evening at 1830.
On Sunday the cadets visited the Imperial War Museum at Duxford where cadets had the opportunity to visit the various hangers to see restored aircraft and aircraft being restored.
During the rest of the week the cadets had many section visits to the Squadrons and Units which are based at Wittering, such as IV(R) Squadron who train pilots to fly the Harrier GR9, 5131(BD)Squadron ( Battle Damage) who disarm bombs, rockets, missiles, which have been dropped by the allies, Air Traffic Control, Fire Section, Propulsion flight who overhaul the “Pegasus” Engine that powers the Harrier GR9, T10 and T12, Survival Equipment Section, 2 MT ( Motor Transport) HQ who have the largest prime movers in all the MOD forces.
One day most of the cadets travelled to Royal Air Force Wyton to 5 AEF (Air Experience Flight) for a flight in a Grob Tutor and they all undertook Leadership Exercises with the Royal Air Force Motivational Team.
They also undertook training for the Mk 8 .22 rifle or the 5.65. mm Cadet L98 rifle and firing of the rifles on the barrack range during their camp, all cadets also had a go on the high and low ropes overseen by staff from the Physical Education flight.
On Wednesday the Camp Photograph was taken at IV(R) Squadron by a NCO of the photographic Section in front of a Harrier GR3.

All the cadets enjoyed their two hour session at the Laser Force arena in Peterborough. On Friday evening the cadets started their packing ready for returning home before the presentation of various prizes and awards gained during the week followed by a fun night.
The cadets returned home on 3rd July, all tired but having had a very enjoyable week.

The most senior Royal Air Force officer in Scotland, Air Commodore Harry Atkinson, the Air Officer for Scotland, visited 1192 (Kirkcaldy) Squadron (Sqn) Air Training Corps on 29 Jun 10 to witness their activities and to see first hand the Squadron’s progress. The cadets enjoy a broad spectrum of activities that develop qualities such as teamwork and leadership, including navigation skills, music and air experience flying. Air Commodore Atkinson also presented several awards to the cadets with Corporal Abbie Durham winning the ‘Best Cadet of the Year’ Award.
Air Commodore Atkinson said “It was a great pleasure to visit with 1192 (Kirkcaldy) Sqn. I do not mind if these cadets go on to join the Armed Forces or not, what I do know is that they go on to become better citizens by virtue of their time spent with the Royal Air Force.’’
