2519 Gliding Experience

On the 18th of July three cadets from 2519 (Strathmore) Squadron, FS Matthew Stevenson and Cdt's  Fraser Scott and Katie Stevenson journeyed to R.M.Condor for gliding at 662 V.G.S. (Volunteer Gliding Squadron).

On their arrival at R.M.Condor they were all briefed on the expected weather conditions, circuits to be used, possibility of Royal Flights, air safety, etc, and a video on the parachute was then shown followed by a video on Viking Glider and its controls.

Up Up and AwayAt this point they all travelled out to the airfield and were shown how to attach the launching strop, how to hold the wing tips and what to do at launch time when the glider is winched up into the air.

Then one at a time each cadet was kitted up with a parachute then into the glider and away they went.

Cdt's Scott and Stevenson undertook a Gliding Induction Course (GIC) 1 which consists of one familiarisation flight, one flight-covering pitch-using elevators, one flight covering roll using ailerons they then both undertook a GIC 2 which is as a GIC 1 but with one extra flight which covers yaw using the rudder.

Flight Sergeant Matthew Stevenson had one flight, which was a refresher flight covering all aspects of his recent Gliding Scholarship Courses, which was the longest flight of the day lasting 48 minutes.

All the cadets enjoyed their day at R.M. Condor and cannot wait for their next gliding experience.
